Mario Arvelo has participated in the Regional Conferences of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) both on behalf of the Dominican Republic and in the exercise of institutional responsibilities as Chair of the UN Committees on World Food Security and Agriculture. In these meetings, the Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development of the 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries draw up the strategic lines of technical cooperation that FAO will provide each biennium both individually to national governments and collectively to the region. Arvelo has twice been conference Vice-Chair (in 2008-10 and 2012-14, also serving as Acting Chair in the latter); he is the conference’s Rapporteur for the 2020-22 biennium.
