Mario Arvelo with the Director-General of FAO

Qu Dongyu, running as a candidate for Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) listens to an analysis by Mario Arvelo on the expectations of Latin American and Caribbean countries regarding the future of the agency, in particular the challenges to food security and nutrition arising from the climate crisis, armed conflicts, and the migrations that they generate, as well as the difficulties —including non-tariff barriers to international trade— that agricultural producers from the so-called Global South must face in order to access markets. It is worth highlighting the importance of preserving the mandate of the organization as an entity of technical knowledge at the service of all countries, leading the fight against hunger and all forms of malnutrition without regional or national distinctions, so as not to leave anyone behind in the fight against these scourges.
