Mario Arvelo with the Executive Director of WFP

Mario Arvelo presents the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) David Beasley with a copy of his edition of Hay un país en el mundo | There Is A Country In The World. Produced by Arvelo, the book offers a new English translation of the best-known work of the Dominican National Poet Pedro Mir, and contains a call to action inspired by the work of WFP and Beasley’s leadership: «The reader is invited to visit the website www.WFP.org to find information on how donating 15 dollars (€13) to the World Food Programme —the leading humanitarian organization of the United Nations— can provide food to a girl or a boy in a conflict zone for an entire month».

Mario Arvelo shares the podium at the opening session of the 45th session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) with World Food Program (WFP) Executive Director David Beasley; Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Director General José Graziano da Silva; CFS Secretary Mark McGuire; and the chairman of the High Level Group of Experts on Food and Nutrition Security Patrick Caron. CFS, which Arvelo chaired in 2017-19, is a joint body of FAO, IFAD, and WFP with a global mandate to achieve policy coherence and convergence in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.
